Nature should be ‘at’ the table, not ‘on’ the table.

A SEAT AT THE NEGOTIATION TABLE MEANS THE ECOSYSTEMS THAT SUPPORT LIFE AND OUR SHARED PROSPERITY ARE REPRESENTED AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AS MUCH AS POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC ONES.

Our initiative is to establish an official mission for Nature at the United Nations that gives the environment equal rights among other geopolitical states of the General Assembly of Nations.

Nature deserves the right to vote and veto global policies that affect all global citizens on the planet.

An initiative to establish a seat, voice and vote for Nature within the United Nations General Assembly. The United Nations is the global forum for addressing issues bigger than any one nation and Nature has no borders. Permanent representation of Nature at the UN builds, supports and carries on the conversation beyond any one conference. An official place at the table ensures a voice for Nature in shaping the future or our planet.

Nature’s Seat

Nature’s Role

The proposed role for Nature is a permanent observer status with enhanced rights and the intention to seek full member privileges. A comparable status would be the European Union.

Nature’s Rights

Rights of Nature at the United Nations would at minimum be a permanent mission at the UN in New York and Geneva with the right to speak in debates among representatives of major groups and before individual states, the right to make proposals and submit amendments, the right of reply, the right to raise points of order and the right to circulate documents.

Nature’s Ambassador

The Ambassador for Nature to the UN would have a credible background with expert knowledge and political experience, and would be elected by a global body of constituents. The role of the Ambassador is like any official state delegate and would work collaboratively to speak and act in the best interest of Nature and its constituents.

Building Consensus

Building consensus at the UN will consist of a how-might-this-work group to harness the collective genius of the delegates of the General Assembly and the administrative body of the United Nations together with innovative thought leaders to co-create a vision and plan of action to make Seat for Nature a reality.
